This study provides valuable insights into the relationship between standardization and general-purpose technology (GPT) formation. This article introduces the concept of GPTs, commonly used in economics, and demonstrates the impact of standardization on the formation of GPTs. It discusses the differences in the need for standardization activities in advanced technology fields related to artificial intelligence and quantum computing based on the differences in these two technologies. A questionnaire survey (SoSA) was employed to investigate the importance of standardization in artificial intelligence and quantum computing technologies. Additionally, individual surveys were conducted on important standardization items. The findings demonstrated that the need for standardization in artificial intelligence technologies was higher than in quantum computing.
