Rural Poverty and Food Security
摘要
This chapter explores poverty reduction strategies in three rural districts of Zimbabwe, analyzing their integration into rural development and their contribution to economic growth. Over the past two decades, Zimbabwe has faced a series of economic, environmental, and political crises, with lasting impacts on rural livelihoods. In response, various development initiatives have aimed to alleviate rural poverty. However, assessing the effectiveness of these interventions in achieving sustainable poverty reduction remains complex. This study critically examines the interplay between rural development and poverty alleviation, identifying both the opportunities and challenges that emerge. While significant progress has been made in Zimbabwe’s antipoverty efforts, challenges such as environmental fragility, climate change, and rural decline hinder further progress. This chapter reviews Zimbabwe’s history of rural reform and poverty alleviation, analyzing key policies, institutional innovations, and the future challenges in poverty reduction. A qualitative research approach, including document analysis, in-depth interviews, and direct observation, is used to gather data. The findings provide a foundation for formulating more effective poverty alleviation strategies in Zimbabwe and other developing countries, highlighting the critical role of rural sectors in fostering poverty reduction and economic growth.
