Navigating the Blue Economy: Unlocking Ocean-Based Solutions for Sustainable Growth and Global Stewardship
摘要
The concept of the blue economy encompasses the sustainable use of ocean resources for improved livelihoods, socioeconomic transformation, climate resilience, and ocean ecosystem health. This study explores the worldwide potential and challenges of the blue economy based on the available data and information. Through an examination of the current state of marine resources, economic activities, climate change impacts, pressing socio-economic challenges, and policy frameworks, this paper identified strategies for enhancing the blue economy while ensuring sustainability and socio-economic benefits. The study further included an analysis of key sectors (i.e., fisheries, tourism, renewable energy), current blue economy conditions, good practices, innovative financing options, climate risks, and environmental degradation and provides recommendations for integrated and collaborative blue economy development for long lasting economic growth, climate resilient development and environmental stewardship in the world. The study suggested to enhance ecosystem-based management of marine areas, sustainable tourism, biodiversity conservation, and strengthen international cooperation, particularly through agreements like the Paris Agreement and UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, technology transfer, public-private-community partnerships for protecting our oceans from the growing threats of climate change, overexploitation of resources, and pollution.
