Slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) is one of the most common hip conditions affecting young adolescents. Current recommendations in the literature recommend percutaneous fixation with single- or double-screw fixation for stable, mild-to-moderate cases, with generally favorable long-term outcomes. In unstable cases and those with more severe slippage, there is less consensus with regards to the surgical treatment type (open vs. closed reduction). In this chapter, we discuss epidemiology and risk factors associated with SCFE, a review of treatments available including a summary of reported outcomes in the literature, as well as recommendations of postoperative rehabilitation.
