Iliotibial Band Syndrome
摘要
Iliotibial band syndrome (ITBS) is a leading cause of lateral knee pain in the long-distance runner population. The pain is a result of the inflammation of the distal portion of the iliotibial band (ITB) sliding over the lateral femoral condyle during repetitive flexion and extension of the knee joint. Potential risk factors have been described that could lead to this syndrome: preexisting ITB tightness, high weekly running mileage, time spent walking or running on a track, interval training and muscular weakness of the knee extensors, and weak flexors and hip abductors.
