Clavicle fractures are a common injury, particularly among young males. The mechanism is usually due to a sporting injury or trauma. Midshaft fractures are the most common, followed by fractures of the distal aspect, with medial fractures being the rarest. Although traditionally treated nonoperatively, literature from the last couple decades has shown that union rates and patient outcomes are superior with operative management of displaced fractures. Consequently, operative fixation of unstable, displaced clavicle fractures is now recommended. This chapter will outline the epidemiology, common mechanisms of injury, classification systems, and clinical and radiographic features of clavicle fractures. Both conservative and operative management options will be discussed, including the advantages and disadvantages of various surgical fixation methods. Outcomes of nonoperative and operative management will be reviewed, as well as rates of return to sport after treatment of this injury.

Both conservative and operative management options will be discussed, including the advantages and disadvantages of various surgical fixation methods. Outcomes of nonoperative and operative management will be reviewed, as well as rates of return to sport after treatment of this injury.
