Birth and Death of the Cadomian Zircon Province
摘要
The strong Cadomian/Pan-African heritage of zircon populations is emphasized in the Iberian Massif by the permanent presence of peaks in Cryogenian‒Ediacaran abundance. The Ediacaran successions of the Ossa-Morena, Central Iberian, West Asturian-Leonese and Cantabrian zones can be assumed as deposited in Ediacaran syn-orogenic basins filled by sediments derived by the erosion of the West African shields and cratons, the Pan-African sutures and the Cadomian magmatic arc. Probability density plots show that, although these domains evolved together during the evolution of the Cadomian backarc-retroarc basins in the northwestern Gondwana active margin, they were sufficiently apart from each other to validate the small differences in their specific detrital zircon content. Specific palaeopositions for each domain can be suggested fringing the northwestern margin of Gondwana.
