Working from the premise that manuscripts have always been digital, this entry explores continuities between early modern women’s manuscript culture and the feminist principles inherent in many digital remediations, as well as possible tensions with those principles and with conventional scholarly editions. The materiality, makerly nature, multiplicity, and collaborative quality of electronic editions are canvassed, along with the medium’s current and potential shortcomings, including concerns related to equitable access for makers and users, the potential for rapid obsolescence, and uncertain relations between digital and print media. The entry concludes with a survey of pertinent digital editions.
