Extraction of Bioactive Compounds: Flavonoids from Tridax Leaf
摘要
Flavonoids are chemical compounds belonging to the polyphenol family that have a basic structure consisting of two aromatic rings (A and B) linked through three carbons that usually form an oxygenated heterocycle (C ring). These molecules exhibit a number of pharmacological properties, including bacteriostasis, antioxidation, immunological modulation, free-radical scavenging, and anti-inflammatory properties. More than 8000 compounds with a flavonoid structure have been identified, many of which are responsible for the attractive colors of flowers, fruits, and leaves. They play vital roles as health-rejuvenating and disease-preventing dietary supplements. Emerging research on flavonoids focuses on novel drug development for various human ailments due to their diverse physiological activity and low toxicity. This plant possesses a number of classes of flavonoids that contribute various pharmacological activities. The present protocol needs hours for the extraction of bioactive flavonoid compounds from leaves through a traditional approach and through an easier, innovative approach.
