In recent years, given the increase in the consumption of medicinal plants, there has been an increase in studies on the safe use of plant extracts and derivatives. Thus, given the importance of the toxicological evaluation of plant extracts, here we present a step-by-step guide to performing in vivo toxicology tests, focusing on the rodent model. This chapter is aimed to describe the fundamental steps to conduct in vivo rodent studies, from the design of treatment doses to the analysis of toxicological parameters using plant extracts.
