Anticancer Treatment with Artist’s Conk Mushroom
摘要
Cancer has become an aggravating public health issue across the globe. Surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, drugs, and immune-mediated therapies, as single treatments or in combination, are being used in its treatment. Limitations and drawbacks associated with these options have facilitated a boost in the research and usage of cleaner and safer herbal medicines or natural bioactive compounds derived from plants, fungi, and bacteria. Ganoderma applanatum, vernacularly known as Artist’s Conk, artist’s fungus, or bear bread, is a medicinal mushroom. Its extract containing certain bioactive compounds has been reported to show significant actions against several cancer cell lines. These compounds, such as polysaccharides, sterols, proteins, nucleotides, vitamins, and triterpenoids, exhibit immunomodulatory, antiproliferative, cytotoxic, and antioxidant activities. This chapter gives a brief description of the protocol of anticancer treatment with Artist’s Conk.
