Lentinula edodes is a commonly cultivated mushroom for its delicacy. It has ecological and economic importance. Although it has been identified through classical taxonomy, modern taxonomic approaches have become important in its classification with the advancement of molecular biology, which has provided a more profound knowledge of its diversity, genetic makeup, and evolutionary relationship among closely related species.
