In spite of several studies on endosymbionts, the research on the potential of endosymbionts as anthelmintic agents has still not yet been fully exploited. This innovative approach of endosymbionts to control parasitic infections helps understand the endosymbionts’ interactions with the helminths/parasites and resolves issues such as drug resistance of helminthic infections. Screening of endosymbionts as anthelmintic agents has attracted interest in developing novel therapy which could target the neglected tropical diseases and infections caused due to helminths. Not only this, the current area of research also plays a key role in understanding the various aspects of symbiotic microorganisms in parasite biology.
