Identification of Virulence Genes Through Virulence Factor Database (VFDB)

In the recent decades, food industry has been revolutionized in the field of functional foods and their associated health effects. The probiotics are widely available in market with beneficial health effects which raises the question regarding their safety aspects. The potential probiotics are selected based on in vitro and in vivo assay; however, with rapid advancement in sequencing techniques, it is also possible to confirm the safety of probiotics at genomic level such as presence of virulence genes.
