With over 175 species belonging to the Euphorbiaceae family, the genus Jatropha is indigenous to tropical and subtropical areas of Asia, Africa, and the Americas. While several Jatropha species have been studied for their biofuel potential and medicinal properties, Jatropha integerrima and Jatropha podagrica are primarily cultivated for their ornamental value, prized for their striking flowers and aesthetic appeal in landscaping. Successful conservation and propagation of these species require an understanding of their reproductive biology, particularly pollen viability and storage. Pollen cryopreservation provides an efficient method for preserving genetic diversity by enabling long-term storage at ultra-low temperatures without compromising viability. This study focuses on the cryopreservation of pollen grains from Jatropha species, outlining a standardized protocol for maintaining pollen viability. By implementing effective pollen storage techniques, this research aims to support conservation efforts, enhance breeding programs, and ensure the sustainable cultivation of ornamental Jatropha species.
