Hemerocallis fulva Pollen Cryopreservation

Hemerocallis fulva, commonly known as the orange daylily, is valued for its ornamental and medicinal significance. Preserving the long-term viability of its pollen is essential for breeding programs and genetic conservation. This study establishes an optimized protocol for the cryopreservation of H. fulva pollen. Pollen was collected from freshly opened flowers, assessed for viability using the hanging drop germination method, and subjected to freeze-drying. The preserved pollen was later used in manual pollination to evaluate post-cryopreservation viability and compatibility. Results confirm the effectiveness of this protocol in maintaining pollen viability, offering a reliable approach for long-term storage and sustainable breeding efforts.
