Chapter 6 returns to a discussion of sets. By an operation on sets we mean the construction of a new set from the given ones. We introduce basic set operations, including union, intersection, and set difference. We define the empty set and discuss set containment and equality. There are many exercises and examples for practice. In the spotlight Paradoxes we discuss paradoxes that stem from careless definitions and others that are simply unavoidable.
