Chemical Composition Analysis for Essential Oils by GC-MS

This report presents a comprehensive experimental investigation on the extraction of oil, separation of oil, and purification of essential oils from a natural plant source. The materials utilized in this study consisted of various plant-based food by-products and components. Multiple extraction methods, including cold extraction, Soxhlet extraction, hydrodistillation, steam distillation, maceration technique, cold pressing technique, and supercritical CO2 extraction, were employed to obtain the essential oils from the mentioned resources. The extracted essential oils underwent a meticulous isolation process and were subsequently subjected to gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry for the purpose of identifying distinct chemical compounds. Through this experiment, users can gain comprehensive comprehension of the extraction procedure for volatile substances, utilizing different techniques and optimized GC-MS conditions. This valuable opportunity allows individuals to acquire knowledge on utilizing GC-MS for identifying chemical structures within complex extracted samples. Furthermore, the experiment involves an integration of multiple extraction methods with gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry to investigate the volatile contour of detailed raw resources.
