Transposable elements (TEs) can play a huge role in shaping the structure and evolution of genes and genomes, but it can be difficult, especially in non-model organisms, to confidently characterize the extent of their diversity and precisely annotate their insertions. Here, I describe bioinformatic approaches for the characterization, curation, and annotation of TEs with considerations on the characteristics of insect genomes and their genome assemblies available.

摘要

Transposable elements (TEs) can play a huge role in shaping the structure and evolution of genes and genomes, but it can be difficult, especially in non-model organisms, to confidently characterize the extent of their diversity and precisely annotate their insertions. Here, I describe bioinformatic approaches for the characterization, curation, and annotation of TEs with considerations on the characteristics of insect genomes and their genome assemblies available.
