Fecal contamination of food samples originating from both human and animal sources poses a significant public health risk. Traditional laboratory techniques require specialized equipment and skilled workers, including a time-consuming enrichment process that makes them unsuitable for field testing. Here we describe a rapid risk-assessment assay for fecal contamination by targeting Bacteroidales using loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP). The assay allows for naked-eye observation of reactions, detecting as few as eight copies of Bacteroidales per cm2 on the surface of food samples within 50 min.

摘要

Fecal contamination of food samples originating from both human and animal sources poses a significant public health risk. Traditional laboratory techniques require specialized equipment and skilled workers, including a time-consuming enrichment process that makes them unsuitable for field testing. Here we describe a rapid risk-assessment assay for fecal contamination by targeting Bacteroidales using loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP). The assay allows for naked-eye observation of reactions, detecting as few as eight copies of Bacteroidales per cm2 on the surface of food samples within 50 min.
