Brain biopsy is a frequent and short surgical procedure. A brain biopsy is used to refine the diagnosis of a brain tumor and to guide the patient toward one form of treatment or another. This procedure requires anesthetic consultation within the recommended timeframe. Appropriate perioperative management may be proposed: discontinuation of anticoagulant and anti-aggregant treatment within the time required for intracranial surgery. The type of anesthetic chosen depends on the patient and the localization of the lesion: local anesthetic, local anesthetic plus conscious sedation, or general anesthetic. After the operation, the patient is monitored for at least 2 h in the postoperative recovery room, where a brain CT scan is performed to check for no complications, particularly hemorrhages.
