Polyacrylamide Gel Electrophoresis for Visualization of Nucleic Acid
摘要
Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE) is a widely employed, versatile technique used in life sciences to fractionate and characterize molecules based on their size, shape, and charge. This high-resolution method primarily separates proteins in mixed samples, enabling their identification and quantification. While PAGE is predominantly used for protein analysis, it also separates nucleic acids, including DNA and RNA. This technique is particularly useful in resolving RNA-protein complexes and detecting RNA interactions through shifts in electrophoretic mobility. A key advantage of PAGE is its exceptional resolving power, capable of distinguishing between differing by as little as 1 in 500 base pairs.
