Collection and Processing of Halotolerant Plant Growth-Promoting Bacteria from Plant Roots and Adjacent Areas

Salinity is a major environmental factor that negatively impacts crop growth and productivity. Halotolerant plant growth-promoting bacteria (halotolerant PGPB) are a group of bacteria that can survive in saline environments and show potential as biofertilizers or biostimulants to increase plant tolerance to salinity. This chapter outlines a comprehensive methodology for the collection and processing of halotolerant PGPB from plant roots and adjacent areas. The methodMethods involves a three-step approach: (1) isolation of PGPB from rhizosphere, rhizoplane, and endosphere, (2) screening for salt tolerance, and (3) screening and characterization for plant growth-promoting traits. This three-step strategy allows identifying and characterizing halotolerant PGPB from interested plant roots and adjacent areas. The utilization of these bacteria as biofertilizers or biostimulants can contribute to sustainable crop production and agricultural practices in the face of climate change.
