This chapter focusses on the mechanical interactions between the cells and the extracellular matrix via the forces exchanged between them and the consequences these interactions have on the motility of tumour cells. The evidence that tumour tissues are harder than normal and generally more fibrotic is also taken into account, and how this effect can be included in mathematical models is discussed.
