Sports authorities, particularly those that are economically powerful and highly structured administratively, are actors in the global economy and international trade. They cannot pretend to be unaware of the existence of competition law rules. These rules exist almost everywhere in the world. They may want to avoid them, but from now on the CAS arbitration system will be less useful to them. The CJEU has just reaffirmed the force of EU law, and Swiss arbitration will no longer be such an effective factor in the regulatory autonomy of sports federations.
