Pulmonary embolism (PE) is a potentially life-threatening disease (Barco et al. 2020a). Clinical presentation of acute PE has a wide spectrum, varying from acute hemodynamic shock or cardiac arrest in a minority of patients (about 5–10%) to a stable condition in most of the cases, or it may even be asymptomatic.
