Radiological evaluation of the shoulder is common place in trauma departments and community practice. Understanding common injury patterns including joint dislocations and fractures of the shoulder are important to expedite appropriate treatment for the patient. Detailing the features of an injury that require particular consideration for correct patient management is vital. In this chapter we describe the relevant anatomy of the shoulder. We discuss the considerations for surgical management of injuries affecting the joints, bones, and soft tissues in the acute trauma setting. We offer common classification systems for different injury types and discuss the key considerations for surgical management.
