LncRNA: Secret Regulators of Cancer Metabolism

Cancer is caused by genetic mutations, epigenetic rearrangements, and chromosomal abnormalities. It is a complex disease with many unknowns that can consist of deletions and various amplifications and varies from person to person. Although known as non-coding RNAs, the class of RNA that is encoded but not translated into protein (ncRNA) is a newly discovered class of transcripts. LncRNAs are defined as single-stranded nucleotides encoded by RNA polymerase II but not translated into proteins. These single-chain structures also have posttranscriptional modifications with the addition of polyadenine (PolyA) groups to the 5′-cap and 3′ tail. LncRNAs help in the regulation and development of metabolism in cancer cells for the survival of cancer cells, causing changes in many chemical metabolisms such as mitochondrial changes, changes in glucose metabolism, and changes in lipid synthesis. In this article, the most important of these changes are thrown into light and it contains information about how these meta-metabolic changes occur.
