Abstract <p>The deformation in abrasive blasting is considered. The contact interaction of a single free abrasive grain with the workpiece is analyzed in terms of microcutting, in two cases: with a sharp tool; and with a tool that has a rounded cutting edge. The use of a simplified definition of the contact forces in abrasive blasting is justified.</p>
