Abstract

Discussion focuses on the adaptation of classic lean production tools for enterprises specializing in small-scale and one–off production, which account for a large segment of Russian mechanical engineering. Direct copying of techniques developed for mass production is ineffective. Analysis of production specifics reveals problem areas, such as the considerable variability of production, unstable utilization of equipment, and difficulties of standardization. Adaptation of lean production tools such as SMED (single-minute exchange of die), kanban, and value stream mapping is considered.
