Abstract <p>In determining elastic workpiece flexure in turning, two approaches are employed: (1) solving the equation of the elastic line in discrete workpiece segments, taking account of the accumulated modal energy due to the cutting forces, the mechanical properties, and the workpiece configuration; (2) using neural networks in developing a model for predicting the dimensional deviation of the workpiece, taking account of the cutting depth, which is calculated on the basis of the final diameter.</p>
