Tool Wear in Precision Finishing

Abstract
The prediction of tool (lap) wear in abrasive finishing is considered. A mathematical model and a software algorithm (in Python) are developed to predict the distribution of lap wear with a cycloidal tool trajectory. The model takes account of the kinematic and geometric parameters of the process, including the rotary speed, the workpiece’s radial position, and the machining time. The model is verified in practical experiments on the finishing of samples obtained by additive manufacturing.
