Abstract

It is determined that, when milling metal workpieces, a 3–10 mm section of the workpiece can be machined before establishment of a steady thermal state; during this period, the cutting force is 4–12% higher and the heating rate of the tooth and workpiece surfaces is 36% higher. Studies of machining polycarbonate workpieces in a transient thermal state above the temperature in the contact zones of milling cutter teeth with the chips and the workpiece are performed. The use of ultrasonic vibrations during milling achieves a decrease in the temperature difference under different thermal conditions of the process and a decrease in their values.
