Abstract <p>The factors responsible for unsatisfactory restoration of the rolling surfaces in wheel pairs are considered. Machining in two stages is proposed: 1) to ensure stable operation of the finishing tool; 2) to obtain specified surface quality. The optimal approach to restoration is grinding with simultaneous heat treatment and subsequent finishing by turning.</p>
