Abstract <p>A mathematical model is proposed for the shaping of the primary rear surface of a drill with specified rear angles and geometry of the cutting edge. Specialized geometry of the cutting section is suggested, with assessment of the design efficiency. The proposed models are modules for automated design and production of the rear surfaces in drills, of standard or three-flute type.</p>
