Abstract <p>The changes in the definition of the terms of roughness parameters <i>Rz</i> and <i>R</i>max are analyzed. Recommendations are given on the use of modified roughness parameters in production, the need to revise the ratios presented in GOST R 70117–2022 and develop guidelines for the implementation of changes no. 2 GOST 2789–73 and no. 1 GOST 25142–82 is justified.</p>
