Effectiveness of Titanium Diboride-Based Coatings for Improving Wear Resistance of Radius End Mills when Machining Inconel 718 Alloy

Abstract—
The article presents the results of endurance tests of end mills with TiAlSiN, TiB2, and TiAlSiN–TiB2 coatings. Features of wear of the cutting edge are determined. The mechanisms of contact interaction of coatings with the machined material are established, and the results of tribological tests are presented. The chemical compositions of the analyzed coatings are determined using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.
