Abstract <p>The elemental composition of precipitation is determined as an indicator of air quality in the lower atmosphere over the Black Sea coast of Russia (the city of Sochi). The studies have been performed using an original approach based on a comparative analysis of the composition of precipitation falling at different heights at the same time. According to an analysis of precipitation for 71 chemical elements in the air over the study area, the spectrum of predominant elements of marine genesis has been revealed:&#xa0;<InlineEquation ID="IEq1"> <EquationSource Format="TEX">\(\mathrm{Mg&gt;Na&gt;Sr&gt;Ca&gt;K&gt;Ce&gt;Mn}\)</EquationSource> </InlineEquation>. A geochemical indicator of the intensity of the marine factor impact on the formation of the atmospheric composition has been developed. The values of the geochemical indicator in the study area vary from 22 (high points) to 3235 (low coastal terrace). The study has shown a significant effect of the height above sea level, slope exposure, and wind rose on the degree of atmosphere saturation with “marine” elements. It has been found that a sharp decrease in the content of the elements of marine genesis occurs 1.5 km from the coast.</p>
