Abstract

A hypothesis about an important role of charged particles in the polar stratosphere photochemistry and ozone depression formation is developed and substantiated. The hypothesis is based on the dipole interaction of molecules with ion clusters and small charged particles. During the collision of molecules with charged particles, not only dissociation of some molecules can occur, but also chemical interaction of molecules with the molecular and atomic environment of charged particles, which changes in accordance with certain principles. Based on these principles, the catalytic cycles of ozone depletion involving charged particles are summarized, and possible photochemical reactions on the effective surface of charged particles are analyzed.
