Abstract <p>The planned experiments at the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider require detector upgrades with increased subsystem segmentation to address the experimental challenges in extremely hard pileup conditions. Both silicon- and scintillator-based calorimeter elements are under development and tests for advanced particle detectors. In this work, the temperature dependence of response to cosmic muons has been studied for small scintillator tiles wrapped in reflective film with the direct readout of light by silicon photomultipliers. The response of such cells under study is observed to reduce by about 10% with decreasing temperature from +30 down to –30°C.</p>
