Abstract <p>This paper presents the main causes of shaft seat wear and possible technologies for eliminating them. It demonstrates the feasibility of using flame spraying to apply powder coatings to compensate for wear on the shaft seats of electrical machines. The chemical reactions occurring between the combustion products of a hydrogen–oxygen gas mixture, the sprayed powder, and the shaft metal are examined. The influence of these chemical processes on the physical and mechanical properties of the sprayed layer is determined. Recommendations are developed for flame spraying of metal powder without a sublayer on the shaft seats of electrical machines using electrolysis-water apparatus.</p>
