Abstract

Zinc-based coatings are the most common type of protective coating in industry. The corrosion resistance of coatings directly depends on their quality, however, in some cases, a decrease in performance properties is observed even with satisfactory external conditions. This phenomenon is associated with coating microdefects, making their identification and study a pressing issue. Using electron microscopic analysis methods, defects such as delamination, buildups, pores, microcracks, accumulation of Al–Zn–Fe intermetallic particles, and stringy oxide inclusions on the surface were identified in a model Zn–1.5Al coating.
