Abstract

Using the results of finite element computer modeling in QForm for four-high helical rolling of steel blanks at various roll feed angles, the nature of shear deformations was determined. For this purpose, changes in the shape and size of individual cubes in various regions of the blank were assessed. In all regions, there is a noticeable (up to 1.5 times) increase in edge length in the rolling direction. Pure shear predominates at all roll feed angles at the center and at a distance of 0.5 workpiece radii from the center. Simple shear at the workpiece surface is clearly expressed in all three directions, with deviations of the angles between the edges from the initial 90 degrees reaching 20–40 degrees.
