Improving Durability for the Structural Elements of Rotary Forging Machines

Rotary forging machines are widely used in metalworking processes for manufacturing solid and hollow elongated products under cold and hot conditions owing to the implementation of highly efficient technologies. Their disadvantages consist in an increased noise level and in occurring impact loads that lead to a significant wear rate of structural elements when the rollers run onto the machine sliders, wherein the strikers are fixed, which is caused by the features of the interaction between them. The use of a trigonometric profile of the slider surface of rotary forging machines makes it possible to compensate these disadvantages. In this paper, a trigonometric contact surface profile proposed for the slider is described and this profile is compared with a circular profile for the case of practical application. The obtained dependences make it possible to manufacture forging block sliders with a trigonometric profile of the contact surface for their subsequent use in rotary forging machines.
