Increase of Efficiency of Turbochargers of Internal Combustion Engines by Modification of Bearing Couplings
摘要
Abstract
An innovative method for reducing friction and wear in bearing joints of turbochargers for internal combustion engines (ICE) is presented in this work. The improvement of tribological properties is achieved by synthesizing a thin ceramic coating based on bismuth oxide and manganese oxide on the surface of the turbocharger shaft. The ceramic coating is synthesized by short-pulse laser treatment of powder materials. The characteristics of the turbocharger with the modified bearing joint confirmed high efficiency and ensured operation without intensive lubrication for 500 start/stop cycles. The simplicity and reliability of this bearing joint modification method offer an innovative and promising approach for a wide range of applications.
