Abstract <p>The characteristics of the columnar structure of continuously cast slabs of various thicknesses made of low-alloy steel have been investigated in a cross-section perpendicular to the broad face of the ingots. Integral parameters have been proposed to characterize the thermophysical and structural features of the metal in the region of the columnar structure. Dependencies linking the thermophysical parameters of the solidifying ingot and the parameters of the forming columnar structure have been established, which can be used to develop measures aimed at improving the quality characteristics of continuous cast slabs.</p>
