Abstract

The influence of near-pipe soils on the processes of defect initiation and development in pipeline metal are studied. It is found that the initiation and development of corrosion cracks are affected by the number of sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB), pH, oxidation-reduction potential (ORP), content of ferrous iron, sulfates, sulfides. It is shown that with the help of chemical and microbiological diagnostics it is possible to determine potentially dangerous in terms of corrosion sections of main pipelines, which should be under special care of operating services.
