Abstract

One of the ways to determine the mechanisms and hazard of corrosion processes consists in the analysis of deposits under formation. An experience in conducting such analyses at gas fields is presented here. The deposits can be organic and inorganic in chemical nature, and in accordance with this, certain methods of analysis are chosen. In this work, we have used the methods of X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy and electron microscopy. In the course of the studies, the reasons for the detection of deposits in the form of sulfur have been revealed and the potential impact of sulfur compounds present in petroleum gas on their formation has been analyzed. A set of deposits formed on the internal and external surfaces near the pipe defect on a water pipeline has been determined. A potential impact of operational factors and operating modes of gas field facilities on the formation and composition of the studied deposits is assessed. Revealing of the causes of corrosion processes makes it possible to timely develop and implement a set of measures for anticorrosion protection of gas field facilities.
