Abstract <p>The paper presents the structural features of metal castings that have a negative impact on the mechanical properties of 20L and 20GL steels. The importance of carbon, manganese and aluminum in steel and their recommended amount, as well as the effect of harmful impurities on mechanical properties have been shown. The reasons for the differences in the mechanical properties of the studied steels have been. Recommendations have been given for increasing the impact toughness of 20GL and 20L steels by increasing the manganese content in order to reduce the percentage of harmful impurities.</p>
