Abstract <p>Statistics on patenting in the field of epitaxial structures and their application are provided; the patent strategy of residents and nonresidents in Russian Federation is analyzed; it is shown that a patent document is not only a source of information concerning a specific technology but also a mechanism for the extraction of maximum profit from the commercialization of a development, while patent research allows for the identification of key trends in the development of technological industries and serves as a mechanism for making long-term forecasts of industry progress. Examples of comprehensive patent protection of objects in the field of epitaxial structure production are given.</p>
